Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Winter Session of Parliament by extending a warm welcome to the newly appointed Rajya Sabha Chairman, CP Radhakrishnan. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Radhakrishnan’s extensive experience and dedicated public service, stemming from a humble farming background, would greatly benefit the Upper House. Modi highlighted Radhakrishnan’s deep connection with tribal communities and his relentless spirit of service, even in remote areas, noting his unique ability to transcend protocol and connect with people. He assured that all members would uphold the dignity and decorum of the Rajya Sabha under his leadership.
Ahead of the session, PM Modi addressed the nation, criticizing the opposition for utilizing Parliament as a platform for political frustration and electioneering rather than constructive debate. He urged them to adopt a more positive approach towards politics and focus on national development, emphasizing that the Winter Session is a crucial opportunity to advance the country’s progress. Citing the record voter turnout, particularly among women in recent elections, Modi stressed the importance of Parliament reflecting the nation’s aspirations and contributing to its growth. He called for a session focused on delivering tangible results for the country, cautioning against using Parliament for political drama and advocating for a chance for new and young MPs to voice their concerns.
