Prime Minister Narendra Modi lit up Gujarat’s Sanand industrial hub on Saturday by inaugurating Micron Technology’s state-of-the-art ATMP facility for semiconductors. This event, he said, represents a game-changing phase for India’s integration into the worldwide chip manufacturing network.
Reflecting on the evolution, PM Modi recalled how, until about 10-11 years back, India barely talked about data centers or semiconductor chips—focus remained squarely on software services. Today, the narrative has shifted dramatically. ‘India is hurtling forward to become an indispensable part of the global semiconductor value chain,’ he asserted during his speech.
Praising the swift execution, the PM detailed the project’s rapid timeline: MoU in June 2023, groundbreaking in September 2023, pilot production setup by early 2024, and full-scale commercial operations now underway. This pace outstrips even the most efficient developed economies, where similar projects drag on for years. The facility embodies India’s policy-driven momentum and unwavering commitment to industrial growth.
Modi lauded Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s Gujarat administration, Micron’s dedicated team, and the on-ground workforce for making this possible. He thanked Micron’s executives specifically, positioning the plant as a beacon of India’s new industrial ethos. As global demand for semiconductors surges amid AI and digital revolutions, this development positions India as a key player, promising jobs, innovation, and economic boost.
