PM Modi Highlights Sanskrit Wisdom on Dharma and Family Values
Highlighting the intersection of ancient wisdom and modern ethics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi circulated a Sanskrit maxim on X this Thursday. The digital post aimed to reinforce the cultural necessity of upholding faith, preserving households, and fostering personal integrity.
The classical text declares: "Satyena rakshyate dharmino vidyabhyasena rakshyate. Mriduya rakshyate rupam kulam vrittina rakshyate." Translated into contemporary language, it conveys that spiritual health depends on truthfulness, academic excellence relies on routine revision, physical attractiveness is maintained through courtesy, and generational legacy depends on upright behavior.
Each line of the verse carries distinct philosophical weight. Truth serves as the bulwark for religious preservation. Consistent intellectual effort safeguards scholarly achievements. Patience and cleanliness protect bodily charm. Ethical discipline, meanwhile, ensures a family’s social standing remains unblemished.
Historically, this teaching is documented in the Udyoga Parva of the Mahabharata. The passage forms part of a crucial chapter detailing negotiations between King Dhritarashtra and Vidura. The ruler questions the mechanics of destiny and human bondage. Vidura elaborates on righteous administration, the hallmarks of virtuous citizens, and the obligations of those in power.
The epic narrative also delves into the psychological traps of lust and pride, offering guidance on how enlightened individuals navigate temptation. It emphasizes that true intellect aligns actions with moral codes.
Earlier in the week, the Prime Minister had also circulated a stanza concerning introspective growth. That earlier communication explained that realizing one’s true identity fosters psychological resilience, eliminates anxiety, and paves the way toward lasting peace and spiritual transcendence through lived experience.
