Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has turned his March 5 birthday into an environmental call-to-action. In an emotional video message on social media platform X, he requested his well-wishers, party workers, and family to forgo conventional celebrations and instead contribute to the planet by planting trees.
Chouhan, a staunch environmentalist who plants saplings daily, reflected on life’s purpose: ‘Our existence gains meaning through dedication to worthy goals.’ He shared his five-year streak of daily tree planting, underscoring environment protection as his lifelong vow. This year, he wants no hoardings from political associates, no shawls or mementos from loved ones – only photos of newly planted trees sent his way.
‘Trees sustain humanity, shelter wildlife, feed birds and beasts, and beautify our world. Planting one is the greatest service to humanity,’ he proclaimed. Chouhan extended the message beyond his special day, advising everyone to adopt this practice annually.
Responding to recent Youth Congress demonstrations at the AI Summit against agricultural pacts, Chouhan, a farmer himself, vouched for their benefits under PM Modi’s leadership. Dismissing opposition tactics as deliberate misinformation campaigns, he labeled the protesters’ undressing stunt as a shameful affront to the nation.
