Phone found in Prajwal Revanna’s barracks leads to VIP cell removal

During a surprise inspection at Bangalore Central Jail, authorities retrieved a mobile phone from the sleeping area of former legislator Prajwal Revanna. The phone, identified as a blue Redmi 5G, was accompanied by a charger, a notebook and a pen drive that reportedly contained explicit videos.

The find forced prison officials to shift Revanna from his luxury VIP cell to a standard barrack that accommodates twenty inmates and a single latrine. The move was carried out after a video clip of Revanna allegedly speaking on the phone in a colourful jacket went viral on social platforms.

The Central Crime Branch, acting on orders from Home Minister Priyank Kharge, seized more than ten mobile devices in the broader operation. Revanna has now been instructed to don the official prison uniform and help with library duties.

In response to the breach, assistant superintendent Eranna was suspended for alleged negligence, while superintendent Anshukumar has been issued a show‑cause notice pending further investigation into potential misuse of the jail’s Wi‑Fi network.
