PGIMER Successfully Treats and Discharges Beaten Panchkula Child

A troubling attack on a six-year-old schoolgirl in Panchkula has ended on a positive note, with the child being discharged from PGIMER Chandigarh on Wednesday. She had been admitted on October 28 following severe injuries sustained during a violent school incident.

The assault took place at a Sector 20 school, where a Class 3 pupil allegedly directed brutal violence toward the victim, a child with special requirements. The girl suffered multiple head injuries from being slammed against walls and was struck with a brick while unconscious and bleeding heavily on the classroom floor.

The Haryana government, under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, immediately committed to funding the entire medical bill and promised to audit safety measures at educational institutions statewide. In practice, PGIMER absorbed all financial responsibilities. The institute covered advanced treatments and private ward expenses, removing any economic hurdles for the family during the rehabilitation period.

Prof. Vivek Lal, Director of PGIMER, celebrated the discharge as a major relief for everyone involved. He explained that the hospital’s primary goal was to provide a secure, compassionate environment for treatment. Prof. Lal lauded the medical and paramilitary teams for their professionalism, reiterating the hospital’s stance that healthcare accessibility should never depend on wealth.

The treatment protocol was guided by Prof. J.K. Mahajan from Pediatric Surgery, with Dr. Raman Sharma handling trauma-specific interventions. Medical Superintendent Prof. Ashok Kumar ensured smooth operational support throughout the admission. Prof. Mahajan emphasized that treating young trauma victims requires patience and emotional support alongside clinical skill. Thanks to unified departmental efforts, the child received comprehensive care, and medical personnel look forward to her speedy recovery and return to everyday life.
