In a bid to balance domestic fuel needs with export revenue, the centre has cut the petrol export duty to 2.5 rupees per litre, down from 4 rupees. At the same time, diesel and aviation turbine fuel face steeper export taxes – 15.5 rupees and 14.5 rupees per litre respectively. The shift follows an earlier set of changes this month that saw diesel’s duty fall to 8.5 rupees and ATF’s to 7.5 rupees, before being reversed. Officials say the revisions reflect the spike in crude oil prices triggered by heightened US‑Iran hostilities.
