Persistent Roof Seepage Halts Learning for Grades 9-12

The monsoon season has laid bare the chronic infrastructure issues at a higher secondary school in Korba's Gurusia block. Continuous water leakage from classroom roofs has forced students in grades nine to twelve to abandon their desks and seek dry spots wherever possible.

Books, answer sheets and even the benches are drenched, prompting pupils to relocate frequently or step outside the classroom to avoid the water. The situation is aggravated by frequent power cuts and a lack of drinking water, further disrupting the learning environment.

Assistant Principal Prem Kumar disclosed that about seven classrooms are plagued by seepage. Temporary fixes such as plastic sheeting over furniture and the opening of a water‑harvesting pipe have provided only marginal relief.

Although the school administration lodged a written complaint with the district education officer and an inspection was carried out, no lasting repairs have been undertaken since the issue first emerged in 2023. The school continues to struggle with each new bout of rain.
