Pathankot hailed as northern bastion of India by CM Saini during tribute

During a solemn tribute in Pathankot, Haryana’s chief minister Naresh Bansal Saini lauded the city as the northern sentinel of India’s sovereignty. Addressing a crowd gathered for the 125th birth anniversary of Shyam Prasad Mukherjee, he described Pathankot as more than a municipal hub – it is the front line of “Bharat Mata” where brave warriors, martyrs, and patriots have historically guarded the nation’s frontiers.

“The earth here is scented with courage, and the very breeze whispers devotion to the motherland,” Saini declared, linking the city’s historic defense role to Mukherjee’s lifelong advocacy for national cohesion.

He highlighted Mukherjee’s dual legacy as a scholar‑politician, noting his appointment as Vice‑Chancellor of Calcutta University at the age of 33 and his endearing moniker, “Bengal’s Lion.” The chief minister also connected Mukherjee’s aspiration for an undivided nation to the removal of Article 370, calling it the moment when the leader’s dream was finally realized.

Saini concluded by mentioning contemporary welfare efforts, such as the provision of permanent homes to millions of poor families and the integration of the Chiraayu health scheme with Ayushman Bharat, underscoring the government’s commitment to the values championed by Mukherjee.
