Patelnagar Encounter: Two Bike-Borne Suspects Held with Pistols

Dehradun has witnessed a dramatic midnight confrontation between police and armed suspects. Two men on a motorcycle were injured in leg shots during a gunfight on Saturday night and were subsequently detained, officials said.

The clash happened near Nayagaon in Patelnagar, Dehradun, which is a Dehradun police station jurisdiction. Two pistols and cartridges were recovered from the suspects, who have previous criminal cases in Haridwar and Dehradun as well as past proceedings under the Gangster Act.

Police said a rigorous checking campaign was in progress in the Patelnagar area when the incident occurred. A motorcycle with a fake number plate was spotted, and officers attempted to halt it. The rider refused to stop at the checkpoint and fled towards Budpur, leading to a chase by the police team.

Police claim that the motorcyclists fired at the team while being pursued, damaging the police vehicle with a bullet. The force responded with counter-fire. In the exchange, both suspects were hit in the legs and were moved to Premnagar Hospital for urgent medical care.

Senior police personnel went to the location of the incident and later reviewed the matter at the hospital. Forensic science lab officials also visited the site to collect evidence for the investigation.

During early questioning, the suspects reportedly acknowledged taking part in several burglary incidents in the Patelnagar, Vikasnagar and Sahaspur police station areas. They had come out with the intention of carrying out a crime, police said, though these claims are yet to be verified.

The injured accused are Shamim, son of Ilyas, and Shahzad, son of Ikhlaq, residents of Roorkee in Haridwar district. Shamim is facing more than twelve criminal cases, and Shahzad has also been booked in multiple cases. Both have been sent to jail in Haridwar several times before.
