Parliamentary Proceedings Delayed on International Youth Day Amid Dispute

The Lok Sabha’s agenda for August 12 was disrupted as members of the opposition refused to allow the debate to move forward, citing concerns over the alleged misuse of funds for the Ram temple’s upcoming inauguration.

Speaker Om Birla, acknowledging the significance of International Youth Day, called for a respectful exchange of views, emphasizing that youthful aspirations in science, technology and entrepreneurship deserved a platform in Parliament.

He assured that the Home Minister would soon present the government’s perspective, encouraging both sides to cooperate. "The house must reflect the nation’s pulse, not its turmoil," Birla said.

The opposition maintained its protest, leading the Speaker to halt the session initially until 12 p.m., and subsequently extending the suspension until 2 p.m., to restore order before any substantive discussion could resume.
