Parliamentary debate sees minister refute allegations of orders against students
New Delhi, July 29 – In a heated exchange on the floor of the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s accusations that Home Minister Amit Shah ordered a crackdown on students.
Singh clarified that the legal framework assigns the power to sanction actions against individuals to the district magistrate or the sub‑divisional magistrate, not to a political leader. He noted that no documentary proof was offered to substantiate Gandhi’s claim.
The minister also corrected the record on the incident cited by Gandhi, stating that tear‑gas, not live ammunition, was deployed. He further denied any recent foreign trip by Shah, describing the assertion as baseless.
Commenting on Gandhi’s choice of words, Singh said such language is unbecoming of a member of parliament and that any personal commentary should be made outside the house. He called on the opposition to engage with the amendment bill on its merits rather than resorting to sensational accusations.
Singh concluded by appealing to all members to uphold decorum, rely on verified information, and keep the focus on strengthening the fairness of public examinations.
