Parliamentary Controversy: NDA Leader Asks Speaker on Rebel Seating

Ahead of the monsoon session, a coalition meeting was called to discuss procedural matters. Trinamool Congress MP Sougata Roy questioned the Speaker’s decision to allocate distinct chairs to the TMC members who have defected to the National Congress Party of India. Roy highlighted that a disqualification petition filed by the Lok Sabha Chairman remains unresolved, making the Speaker’s move premature. He further stated that the Speaker had not yet granted official party status to the faction. The incident prompted a walkout by opposition lawmakers, who claimed that the Speaker’s actions jeopardised the neutrality expected of the parliamentary chair.
