Parliamentarian Seeks CBI Oversight of Ram Temple Trust Finances in Supreme Court
The Supreme Court is set to hear, on July 13, several petitions that question the financial transparency of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. Among the filings, MP Sudhakar Singh has specifically asked for the Central Bureau of Investigation to take over the probe, with the court retaining supervisory control.
The bench that will consider the matter includes the Chief Justice, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohan. The petitions, which also feature a writ by lawyer Narendra Kumar Ghoswami and a criminal writ by Ajay Kumar Rai and co‑accused, allege that donations and offerings have been mismanaged since the trust’s formation.
Singh’s petition outlines a set of remedial measures: a court‑appointed temporary committee of retired judicial officers and finance experts, the preservation of all financial records, a freeze on major financial transactions until the investigation wraps up, a comprehensive forensic audit, and the mandatory posting of audited statements and donation details on the trust’s website.
The request follows an earlier refusal by a two‑judge panel headed by Justices M. M. Sundresh and Sheel Nagu to schedule an immediate hearing, pushing the case to be listed after the summer recess. Petitioners maintain that the seriousness of the accusations warrants prompt judicial intervention.
