Parliament Adjourns After Approving 2026 Paper Leak Prevention Bill

The Lok Sabha concluded its Wednesday proceedings by adopting the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. After the vote, members were instructed to reconvene at 11 a.m. on Thursday.

During the debate, Union Minister Jitendra Singh launched a vigorous critique of opposition lawmakers, accusing them of “political posturing” on a matter of national importance. He labeled their conduct as “disheartening” and condemned the language used by certain opposition leaders as “undemocratic and inappropriate for the House."

Singh also took issue with an opposition remark that branded the country’s youth as “idiots,” calling it a “deeply regrettable” statement that undermines the nation’s future.

The minister recalled a July 21 incident where an opposition leader set up a sit‑in outside the Prime Minister’s 7‑LKM residence, suggesting it was an attempt to force a favor. Singh noted that the leader was asked to leave after the protest failed to achieve its aim.

In response to questions about violence, Singh clarified that only a tear‑gas device was used in the related event, not live ammunition, and reminded that the authority to order gunfire belongs to the judicial magistrate, not a cabinet minister.

With the bill now recorded as passed, the House adjourned until the following day.
