Pappu Yadav Accuses Government of Excessive Force on Protesters
Senior BJP MP Pappu Yadav from Purnia used his parliamentary platform to denounce what he termed as "unreasonable brutality" inflicted on recent campus demonstrators. Yadav, wearing a band emblazoned with the word "justice," alleged that security personnel resorted to lathi charges and the discharge of pellet gun ammunition against a largely peaceful crowd.
He said eyewitness accounts and video footage show officials chasing students with rifles, a scenario he likened to the heavy‑handed tactics once reserved for conflict‑prone zones. Yadav also criticized Union Minister Dharmendra Prasad, stating that it is inappropriate to reward a minister with a traditional turban while allegations of corruption continue to surface.
The MP called for immediate parliamentary scrutiny, urging the Home Ministry to submit a comprehensive report detailing the chain of command, the decision‑making process, and the legal justification for the force used. He warned that failure to address these concerns could trigger wider unrest among the youth, who are already agitated by mounting unemployment and perceived systemic bias in competitive examinations.
Yadav concluded by urging his colleagues across party lines to stand up for democratic rights, emphasizing that any erosion of civil liberties must be met with a decisive legislative response.
