Paper leak controversy fuels political tussle between Haryana and Punjab leaders

Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini on Thursday used a post‑festival press conference in Karnal to criticize the handling of the Punjab paper‑leak episode. He said the opposition’s public persona differs sharply from its actual governance style, noting that while the Congress and its partners promise progress, their actions often fall short.

Saini pointed to the silence of the AAP Punjab government and Congress figure Rahul Gandhi as evidence of a worrying disconnect from the concerns of Punjab’s youth, who have been demonstrating on the streets demanding answers. He described the lack of a clear response as “highly unfortunate.”

The leader lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing a robust legal framework to deter paper leaks, calling it a clear sign of the government’s dedication to protecting the country’s future talent pool. He added that a prospective BJP administration in Punjab would emulate Haryana’s “double‑engine” growth pattern, promising accelerated development and greater opportunities for young voters.

Reflecting on the recent 77th State Forest Festival, Saini warned that the leak had not only put academic futures at risk but also left student candidates feeling cheated and disrespected. He recalled AAP’s own Manish Sisodia once stating that any leak during their term would force the education minister to step down.

The chief minister concluded by urging both the Punjab state officials and Congress leadership to break their silence, stressing that failure to act would deepen public disenchantment.
