Legend of Pandavas and the Construction of Tunganath Shiva Temple

Mythology recounts that after the devastating Mahabharata war, the Pandavas sought solace in the Himalayas. Bhima, in his search for Lord Shiva, discovered a wandering bull near Guptkashi, recognizing it as an embodiment of the deity. While Shiva did not appear directly, he merged with the bull and later manifested in five separate forms across the Panch Kedar sites. The Pandavas, grateful for glimpses of these divine aspects, built temples at each location, including Tunganath, which honors Shiva’s arms. This act is believed to have absolved them of their sins and granted lasting spiritual merit.
