Organised Heist in Assam’s Halakandi Leads to Multi‑Agency Arrests

A coordinated operation by the Halakandi police resulted in the arrest of five alleged members of a sophisticated robbery ring that targeted the home of Swapan Das, owner of the Bora Ghat petrol pump in the Natunpara locality. The suspects—Rizwan Ahmad Majumdar, Akbar Hussain Laskar, Zabdul Haq, Prasenjit Roy, and jewellery dealer Naharul Islam Barbhuiya—were detained after simultaneous sweeps at several points across the city. The police recovered 21 grams of gold along with silver jewellery from the suspects. Early findings indicate a division of labour within the gang: some executed the break‑in, others helped the culprits evade capture, and a few were implicated in the illegal trade of the stolen ornaments. The investigation points to an organised criminal network, prompting officials to continue probing its connections.
