In a crackdown on corruption within defense establishments, the CBI has booked an Indian Ordnance Factory Service officer for possessing assets far exceeding his declared income. The accused, a 1998-batch official, previously helmed the Ordnance Equipment Factory in Firozabad’s Hazratpur and now serves in Kanpur’s Troop Comforts Limited Training Academy.
Saturday’s press release from the CBI detailed the FIR lodged on February 26. The period under scrutiny spans April 2022 to December 2025, during which the officer allegedly built an illicit portfolio valued at Rs 55.58 lakh—73.28% above his legitimate means. This revelation stemmed from intelligence inputs and routine surveillance on high-profile public servants.
Raids conducted on February 27 targeted five premises in Agra, Lucknow, Bareilly, and Kanpur. The operations were meticulous, yielding bank statements, property deeds, vehicle registrations, and credit card details. Notably, residential flats in Agra (2025 purchase) and Lucknow (2023) were pinpointed, alongside a Bareilly property.
Cash and jewelry haul included Rs 5 lakh in hard currency and Rs 49 lakh in gold ornaments from the searched homes. Documents on lavish spending and shadowy investments were confiscated, bolstering the case for money laundering and abuse of position. The CBI’s forensic accountants are now tracing fund flows to unravel the full extent of the graft.
This development sends a strong message to defense sector employees: no one is above the law. As probes intensify, the nation watches whether this exposes a larger network of malfeasance in ordnance factories.
