Opposition protests as Rajya Sabha clears bankers books evidence legislation

During Monday's sitting, members of the opposition raised slogans and disrupted proceedings while the Bankers Books Evidence Bill was on the floor. Deputy Chairman asked opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge to limit his comments, citing the Rules of Procedure of 1952. The exchange grew tense as Kharge shouted a derogatory remark that was drowned out by the commotion. After the chairman restored order, representatives from AIADMK, BJP, BJD, YSRCP, NCP, TDP, VRS, DMK and Shiv Sena were called upon to share their views. Their statements praised the long‑overdue reform, noting that the updated law would safeguard digital banking data and strengthen the legal admissibility of electronic records.
