Opposition Stages Protest Over Government's Flood Response
Before the Assembly was adjourned, opposition legislators took to the steps of the Vidhan Bhavan to voice their disappointment with the state’s handling of the monsoon emergency. Leaders from the Congress and other parties shouted slogans accusing the government of failing to anticipate the severity of the rains.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar pointed out that the past 48 hours have claimed twelve lives due to open manholes, fallen trees and collapsing structures. He argued that timely pre‑monsoon surveys, regular pruning of trees, securing manholes and proper drainage planning could have averted many of these tragedies. The protest highlighted the growing political tension as the city grapples with an increasingly volatile weather pattern.
