Opposition Labels ₹5,000 Interim Help for Farmers a Mockery
In a heated press briefing, Congress MP Balwant Vanakhade condemned the Maharashtra government's decision to grant a one‑time ₹5,000 to struggling farmers. He asserted that the amount is insufficient to meet even the most basic household expenses.
“The government’s aid is nothing more than a joke,” Vanakhade said, pointing out that the cash cannot buy a child’s garments, let alone compensate for lost harvests. He warned that such token measures could deepen the sense of neglect among the rural community.
The opposition also raised concerns about the timing of the announcement, noting that it coincides with other contentious policy moves, including the proposed removal of the historic Jantar Mantar site as an official protest venue.
Vanakhade urged the administration to engage with farmer leaders and formulate a comprehensive, long‑term support plan rather than relying on symbolic cash handouts.
