Opposition Demands Self‑Imposed Hunger Strike from Raghuvar Das

New Delhi, August 13 – The decision of former Jharkhand chief minister Raghuvar Das to potentially join the student agitation in Ranchi has provoked a pointed response from Congress leaders. Sukdev Bhagat told the press that Das should undertake a hunger strike, but only as a personal act of remorse for his governance record. He reminded the audience that during Das’s 2014‑2019 administration, the state failed to conduct a single JCE examination, raising questions about responsibility.

Independent MP Pappu Yadav added that Das and the BJP have lost all credibility, citing numerous corruption allegations and urging Das to answer the public on alleged financial misappropriations and leaked examination papers during his tenure.

Das, who met the protesting students, warned that if their demands are not met with concrete measures, he will join the protest and may start a fast at the Birsa Munda memorial within a week.

Students have been on a sit‑in for over 20 days, demanding a CBI probe into the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and other competitive exams. Several participants have already begun fasting, and their health is deteriorating.
