Opposition Criticises Government on Exam Reforms and Judicial Backlog
Congress legislators Shashi Tharoor, Gaurav Gogoi and K. Suresh used the same parliamentary session to flag shortcomings in the government’s handling of education and the judicial system. Tharoor, discussing the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill 2026, warned that harsher penalties alone would not curb paper‑leak scandals unless systemic safeguards are strengthened. He also questioned the efficacy of fast‑track courts, noting that a surge in cases in 2025 had not translated into proportionate judgments. Gogoi demanded the presence of the Prime Minister or Home Minister to answer queries on exam reforms, while Suresh highlighted the continuing distress of students and parents over the centralisation of examinations.
