Opposition Accuses BJP of Undermining Democratic Protest Through FIRs

Congress leaders, including Amar Singh and Manoj Pandey of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, warned that filing FIRs against protestors is tantamount to curbing the electorate’s basic right to vote and express dissent.

Pandey pointed out that after the recent SIR exercise, the voter list shrank from 102 crore to 87 crore, leaving 14 crore potential voters unaccounted for. He called the BJP’s actions “seditious” and demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The opposition reiterated that democratic protests are a constitutional right and that any attempt to silence them through legal intimidation will be met with vigorous resistance.
