Operation Ngopa Yields Over ₹8.8 Crore Heroin and Confiscates Vehicles

The joint operation conducted by Assam Rifles and the Mizoram police in Ngopa, Saitual district, resulted in a major heroin seizure valued at about ₹8.85 crore. Investigators recovered 109 soap‑wrapped packets holding 1.180 kilograms of the drug, cleverly hidden behind the rear number plate of a vehicle. The vehicle itself was also seized. A subsequent raid in the same area uncovered an additional 40 soap packets with 432 grams of heroin, approximated at ₹3.24 crore, along with a truck used for smuggling. Both operations underline the persistent threat posed by cross‑border narcotics networks in the northeastern frontier.
