Operation Mukta crackdown leads to arrest of 31 Bangladeshi nationals

The crackdown known as ‘Operation Mukta’, launched on August 9, targeted suspected illegal migrants across Karnataka. During the sweep, officials verified the documents of 2,944 individuals and identified 105 Bangladesh citizens as potential illegal entrants. Of those, thirty‑one were apprehended in Bengaluru and later shifted to Malda district for detention. The operation underscores the state’s intensified surveillance after the BJP came to power in West Bengal in May, with additional border‑area detention facilities now operational. Central Home Minister Amit Shah has repeatedly urged strict action against unauthorised entry, and the Border Security Force is slated to manage the final deportation phase.
