Open Debate Invited: CM Targets Rahul Gandhi on Historical Issues
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has stepped into a growing political dialogue by calling on Rahul Gandhi to address historical controversies and contemporary political claims during a parliamentary debate.
The announcement appeared on X, coinciding with Gandhi’s Tuesday night challenge to the Prime Minister for a direct exchange on national issues.
In her statement, Gupta pointed to the 1975 Emergency period under Gandhi’s grandmother, noting the arrest of opposition leaders, media restrictions, and the suspension of democratic norms. She also referenced the 1984 anti-Sikh massacres in Delhi, which happened while her father served as Prime Minister, arguing that Congress has yet to distance itself from that violent legacy.
Addressing the party’s recent electoral performance, the CM observed that the current administration has secured three successive mandates in 2014, 2019, and 2024. She stated that a fourth consecutive win remains Congress’s worst political scenario and urged Gandhi to stop avoiding accountability.
Gupta specified that the debate should be held in the Indian Parliament in New Delhi, emphasizing that no special permissions or travel visas are required.
Earlier in the evening, Gandhi had posted a challenge inviting the Prime Minister to a moderated discussion with journalists and young citizens. He questioned allegations of treason and foreign ties, demanding clarity on economic policies, international agreements, and internal government approvals. He acknowledged roughly 45 defamation proceedings against him but stressed that legal threats do not block conversations on international links. The post wrapped with a Diwali message and a demand for transparent, fact-based discourse.
