Onion Relief: ₹35 per Kg Offered at Delhi-NCR Sale Centres

Delhi residents can now purchase onions at a heavily discounted price of ₹35 per kilogram, thanks to a new central government initiative aimed at stabilising food prices. The move comes as market rates have surged to ₹60‑₹70 per kilogram, putting pressure on households. Initially, thirteen outlets across Delhi and the surrounding NCR have been authorised to sell onions at the reduced rate, with an expansion target of forty outlets in the near future. The program was inaugurated at the Agriculture Building, where Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare authorised a mobile van operated by the National Cooperative Consumer Federation to begin sales. On the opening day, about 400 kilograms were sold. The government has tapped into a 840‑tonne buffer stock, dispatching roughly 450 tonnes via the inaugural "Kanda Express" train from Nasik to Delhi's Adarsh Nagar railway station. Additional "Kanda Express" services are planned, ensuring a continuous flow of onions to the capital and easing the financial burden on consumers during the festive buying season.
