OGEL validity extended to three years, covering all eligible countries

A key pillar of the reform is the extension of the OGEL licence validity from two to three years. This longer tenure reduces the frequency of renewals, saving time and compliance costs for exporters. The licence now authorises shipments to any country that does not fall under United Nations Security Council restrictions, dramatically widening the potential market for Indian defence firms. The move is timed with India’s record‑breakers: defence production reached an all‑time high of INR 1.78 lakh crore in FY 2025‑26, while defence exports surged to INR 38,424 crore in the same period.
