National Research Foundation Honors Six Madras Scientists with Annual Grants

In a ceremony reported from New Delhi on August 7, the National Research Foundation conferred its J.C. Bose grant on six distinguished IIT Madras professors. The award provides each scientist with a yearly stipend of 2.5 million rupees for five years, supporting a wide spectrum of research activities. The honourees include Prof. Sujata Srivastava, who has pioneered affordable prosthetic limbs; Prof. Thalappil Pradeep, known for low‑cost water‑purification systems; Prof. Deepa Venkatesh, leader of India’s first multi‑core fiber test centre; Prof. Jitendra S. Sangwai, an authority on carbon capture and gas hydrates; Prof. Ramakrishnan Swaminathan, a developer of advanced biomedical sensors; and Prof. Sundar Gopal Ghosh, whose work on boron chemistry opens new catalytic pathways. Their collective output features over a thousand research papers, hundreds of patents and multiple national awards.
