Northwest India sees lingering showers as moisture drifts from Bay of Bengal
The north‑west part of the country continues to face intermittent rain due to a steady stream of moisture arriving from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Dr. Naresh Yadav highlighted that a well‑marked pressure area, which was situated over the north‑west and central regions on Wednesday, moved to the south‑west and Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. This atmospheric feature, together with the monsoon’s favourable orientation stretching to the Bay of Bengal, creates a conducive environment for persistent showers. Delhi‑NCR has already endured two days of rain, resulting in water‑logged roads and traffic congestion. The IMD’s orange alert for Thursday warned of moderate to heavy rainfall, while a yellow alert for Friday suggests lighter precipitation. A brief drizzle may still affect the region on Saturday, although no formal alert is in place. In the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, heavy rain on Thursday triggered a red alert that remains effective for Friday.
