Northern Interior Tamil Nadu to See Above‑Normal Temperatures Amid Showers
The latest IMD forecast highlights a contrast between rain‑laden coastal districts and a relatively warmer interior in northern Tamil Nadu. While Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Madurai, Shivganga, Salem and Tiruppur are slated for moderate rain with thunder and gusty winds, the upland areas inland are expected to record maximum temperatures two to three degrees Celsius higher than the usual range for early October.
Wind velocities in the rain‑affected districts may reach 40‑50 km/h, creating potentially hazardous conditions for traffic and outdoor work. Isolated thunderstorms with light rain are also possible in Puducherry and Karaikal.
Chennai's weather will be dominated by partial cloudiness. The city is forecast to stay between 35°C and 36°C at its peak, with a minimum around 26°C‑27°C after dark.
Meteorologist Pradeep John cautioned that the northeast monsoon could make an early appearance as soon as Thursday, pending the development of a favorable atmospheric circulation that would usher in the seasonal rainfall.
