No Coalition With Akali Dal, BJP Eyes Strong Government in Punjab

Jalandhar, September 1 – In a clear statement, BJP’s national general secretary Sateesh Pooni ruled out any alliance with the Akali Dal for the upcoming Punjab state election. He asserted that the party will fight all 117 seats on its own and work toward forming a robust government.

Pooni highlighted the party’s upcoming “Seva Sankalp” campaign, slated from September 17 to October 17, which will illustrate how Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship schemes have transformed everyday life for the common man. The campaign also aligns with the celebration of Modi’s 25 years in public office on October 7.

Commenting on criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party, Pooni dismissed the rival as lacking a firm ideological base and making frantic promises regarding Punjab’s drug menace, corruption, sand mining and law‑and‑order concerns. He underscored that the BJP’s organisational “double engine” is geared toward delivering effective governance.

The BJP also addressed the recent condolence visit by three of its MPs to the family of late former Congress MP Sajjan Singh. Party president Nitin Niravane is said to have reprimanded those members. Pooni reminded that the BJP has consistently supported rehabilitation for victims of the 1984 disturbances in Delhi and Haryana.
