Nitin Gadkari's Green Highway Push for Vitthal Devotees in Maharashtra

In a significant step for spiritual tourism, Minister Nitin Gadkari visited Indapur to review the transformative Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg project. Joined by key state figures including Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne and local MLAs, the minister bus toured the full length, scrutinizing every detail of the ongoing work. '80 percent done, and it's more than a highway—it's our Green Highway for faith,' Gadkari told reporters. Emphasizing cultural reverence, he noted, 'Vitthal bhakti drives millions to Pandharpur yearly, guided by saints Tukaram and Gyaneshwar. We're ensuring a trouble-free, joyful pilgrimage.' His X post captured the essence: 'Reviewed Tukaram Palkhi route. Redeveloping for warkaris' comfort in their sacred yatra.' This Rs 4,416 crore endeavor covers 130 km across Pune-Solapur, in three phases: Pats-Baramati finished, Baramati-Indapur at 84%, Indapur-Tondale nearing 100%. Full operational by December, it promises swift bypasses around major towns, pedestrian lanes, advanced bridges, and underpasses. Synergizing with the Gyaneshwar Palkhi route, it streamlines massive Ashadhi and Kartiki processions. Environmentally, it's exemplary—400+ trees relocated, new plantations, deepened ponds aiding 25 villages' water needs, and wildlife passages in sensitive zones to prevent roadkill. Job creation absorbs half the expenditure, spurring ancillary businesses from dhabas to tourism hubs. Local stakeholders hail it as a cultural-economic lifeline. Gadkari envisions it as faith meeting progress, solidifying Maharashtra's devotional infrastructure legacy.
