Nighttime Collision on Haldiya‑Mecheda Road Leaves Six Victims
A dark‑hour collision on the Haldiya‑Mecheda State Highway near the Shantipur locality of Kolaghat resulted in three fatalities and three serious injuries, officials reported on Saturday. The wreckage, described as heavily damaged, involved a motorcycle and a scooter that struck each other at high speed.
Local residents immediately began a rescue effort, while officers from Kolaghat police station arrived shortly after the 3 a.m. emergency call. The injured were rushed to Tamaluk Medical College and Hospital, where they are undergoing intensive care.
The highway was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene. Police suspect poor visibility and the absence of helmets played a role in the tragedy.
