In 1964 Fazli moved to Bombay, seeking opportunities in journalism and literature. His first published collection of Urdu poetry appeared in 1969, marking his entry into the literary scene. The film industry soon recognized his lyrical gift. He debuted as a lyricist with the movie *Rajia Sultan* and later authored evergreen songs such as "Kabhi Kisi Ko Mukammal Jahaan Nahi Milta" from *Aahista Aahista* and "Hosh Walon Ko Khabar Kya, Bekhudi Kya Cheez Hai" from *Sarfarosh*. These songs cemented his reputation as a bridge between poetic tradition and popular cinema.
