NHRC seeks report from Punjab chief secretary and DGP on alleged bribery

Following a complaint that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s wife tried to extract a five‑crore bribe to stall a rape investigation, the NHRC has formally requested a status report from the state’s chief secretary and the Director General of Police. Member Priyank Kanoongo explained that the commission is monitoring the case closely and has also notified the Home Ministry’s women‑safety cell. The demand for transparency has been echoed by Congress MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and BJP leader Vijay Sampla, who both stressed the need for a swift and thorough inquiry.
