NHRC Demands Investigation into Detention Violence Involving RSS Promoter Krishna Avatar

The National Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of a complaint alleging custodial torture of RSS promoter Krishna Avatar in Rajasthan’s Narayana police station. The petition, submitted on 13 October, claims that Avatar was seized during a police raid, compelled to remove his clothes, shackled, and repeatedly struck, with particular focus on his genital area. The NHRC panel, chaired by Priyank Kanoongo, directed the Chief Secretary V. Srinivas and DGP Rajiv Kumar Sharma to submit an action‑taken report within 14 days, detailing the circumstances of the arrest, the existence of an FIR, the legal provisions invoked, and the progress of any criminal probe. The commission highlighted that if the accusations hold true, they would represent a grave breach of Article 21 guarantees of life, liberty and human dignity.
