NHAI and Central Railway Coordinate Repairs on Damaged Retaining Wall

The Central Railway and the National Highways Authority of India have launched a joint effort to restore the damaged retaining‑earth wall of the overbridge that lies on railway kilometre 423/16‑18. The wall segment collapsed on 31 July 2026, triggering a coordinated response.

The NHAI has been instructed to stabilise the wall, design an adequate rain‑water drainage system, and carry out a comprehensive root‑cause analysis. The railway is awaiting technical design documents, the analysis report, and a detailed restoration schedule from the highway authority.

Meanwhile, a precautionary closure of one two‑lane carriageway has been maintained, while the opposite lane remains open. Continuous site surveillance is in place, especially as the region heads into the monsoon season, to ensure that any emerging risk to rail infrastructure is mitigated promptly.

Both agencies stress that safeguarding track integrity, train operations, and railway assets is paramount. Regular coordination meetings and written communications are being used to track progress and guarantee that the overbridge is returned to full functionality as quickly and safely as possible.
