NFR’s Solar Installations Deliver ₹8.6 Crore Savings in FY 2025-26

The North East Frontier Railway (NFR) reported that solar power production for the financial year 2025‑26 reached about 1.14 million units, generating cost savings of approximately ₹8.6 crore. This performance marks a 90 % rise in energy generation and a 95.45 % increase in financial savings compared with the previous year’s 0.6 million units and ₹4.4 crore saved.

These figures stem from a cumulative solar capacity of 42.1 MW, built up since the zone’s solarisation programme launched in 2011. The latest surge of 23.7 MW added between January and July 2026 positioned NFR as the leader in solar power among Indian Railways.

The Lumding division contributed the largest share with 17.7 MW, while Rangiya added 9.6 MW. Other divisions such as Alipurduar, Katihar and Tinsukia also played crucial roles in expanding the renewable energy base.

Beyond immediate monetary benefits, the increased solar generation helps reduce NFR’s carbon footprint, supports energy self‑reliance, and aligns with Indian Railways’ goal of achieving net‑zero emissions. Ongoing projects aim to introduce another 9 MW of solar capacity across key divisions, promising further savings and environmental gains.
