New Welfare Schemes Unveiled by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, addressing the nation on August 15, announced a reinforcement of Tamil Nadu’s flagship welfare programmes. The Amma Unavagam network will receive additional funding to expand its reach in urban and semi‑urban areas, ensuring low‑cost meals for the underprivileged.

The Breakfast Scheme, designed for school children, will be broadened to cover more districts, aiming to improve nutrition and attendance rates. Vijay also detailed a focused agricultural assistance plan, allocating funds for crop‑loan forgiveness and a special Kuruvai sowing package to boost farmer incomes.

In a decisive move toward clean governance, the administration has shuttered 717 liquor outlets owned by the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation. The corporation is currently undergoing a digitisation drive to increase transparency and reduce malpractices.

Vijay assured that his government will cooperate with the centre on initiatives that directly benefit Tamil Nadu, while sternly opposing any intervention that compromises the state’s constitutional safeguards.

He appealed to public officials to treat citizens with dignity and promised that the state will eliminate bureaucratic hurdles that force people to move from one office to another for basic services. The chief minister’s long‑term vision centers on positioning Tamil Nadu as a model state comparable to the most advanced economies.
