New role for Sukdev Bhagat: steering Congress strategy in Chhattisgarh

Sukdev Bhagat, a Lok Sabha member from Chhattisgarh, has been handed a senior responsibility by the Congress high command to lead the party’s strategic planning in the state. In an interview, Bhagat expressed gratitude toward the top leadership and outlined his roadmap for the next five years, targeting a full-fledged comeback in the 2028 legislative assembly elections.

He highlighted three priority areas: strengthening party cohesion, amplifying policy proposals that address tribal welfare, and consolidating support along the state’s border corridors. Bhagat also underscored the importance of close synergy with senior leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and General Secretary C. V. Venugopal, whose counsel he described as vital for navigating the complex political terrain.

Addressing broader governance concerns, Bhagat praised the recent Jharkhand CID operation that resulted in the arrest of two more individuals linked to a recruitment‑paper leak conspiracy, bringing the total number of arrests to 21. He affirmed that the Congress government in Jharkhand, under Hemant Soren, is determined to pursue zero tolerance for any irregularities in public examinations.
