In a significant boost to oncology services, the Army Hospital in Delhi has commissioned a ring gantry linear accelerator capable of delivering advanced radiotherapy techniques. The equipment replaces older machines and offers volumetric arc therapy, intensity modulation, image guidance, and stereotactic options. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh formally launched the system on Monday in the presence of Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin and Lt Gen Avinash Das. Clinicians highlight that the technology allows oncologists to sculpt radiation doses around tumours with sub-millimetre accuracy, protecting vital organs and reducing complications. The hospital anticipates shorter waiting times and fewer referrals for complex cases. Military planners view the installation as part of a broader drive to equip armed forces medical facilities with next-generation cancer-fighting tools, ensuring personnel and their dependents receive cutting-edge treatment without leaving the defence healthcare network.
