New Co‑Districts Aim to Bring Administration Closer to Rural Assam

In a bid to make governance more accessible, Assam will establish eight further co‑districts, increasing the network to 47 locations. The model, first introduced to decentralise authority, places essential government services in satellite offices that are within easy reach of rural populations. According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the additional centres will cut down travel time for citizens, improve interaction with officials, and help implement welfare schemes more efficiently. The initiative reflects the administration’s focus on reducing bureaucratic hurdles and bringing the state’s development agenda closer to the people.
