New Army Chief Pledges Tech‑Ready Force Under ‘Vijay’ Strategy
On July 1, the Indian Army welcomed its new ground commander, General Dhiraj Seth, who unveiled a forward‑looking strategy called “Vijay”. The initiative is designed to build a force that is fully equipped for present and future challenges, echoing the defence ministry’s “Decade of Transformation”.
During a ceremony at the ministry’s headquarters, the chief received a guard of honour, thanked political leaders for their trust and saluted the ultimate sacrifice of fallen servicemen.
General Seth highlighted the rapidly shifting security scenario, where traditional frontier tensions coexist with sophisticated cyber, space, data and technology‑based threats. He argued that accelerating modernization is essential to stay ahead.
Vijay comprises three key pillars. The first pillar – vigilance and operational readiness – focuses on robust border security, persistent threat monitoring, reinforced intelligence capabilities and the capacity to deliver swift, decisive actions.
The second pillar – innovation and transformation – calls for a paradigm shift in weapons, doctrines and tactics, with a special emphasis on artificial intelligence, drone warfare, autonomous systems, cyber resilience and cutting‑edge communication networks.
The third pillar – jointness and integration – aims to improve synergy among the army, navy and air force, fostering joint operations and more efficient resource utilization. Self‑reliance is woven throughout, promoting domestic defence production, partnerships with Indian manufacturers and the use of indigenous technology.
The chief reiterated that the army’s strongest asset is its people. He promised to give top priority to soldiers’ welfare, skill development and morale, asserting that modern equipment must be complemented by confident, capable troops.
He closed by reaffirming the army’s dedication to its historic values while constantly evolving to protect the nation’s sovereignty and strategic objectives.
