Nehru Park Plog Run Links Fitness, Cleanliness and Unity

Officials and participants gathered at Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, on October 31 for a plog run that combined physical fitness with environmental care. The Department of Pharmaceuticals, under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, organised the event with the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI). It was staged under the Fit India Freedom Run 7.0 campaign.

The 1500-metre plog run was led by Awadhesh Kumar Choudhary, Senior Economic Adviser in the Department of Pharmaceuticals. Officers from the department, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) and PMBI joined the run.

The initiative sought to make physical activity a regular part of daily life and to promote a cleaner environment. Plogging, which involves jogging while picking up litter, served as the central idea. Participants demonstrated that individual efforts toward fitness and cleanliness can contribute to a healthier society and a cleaner planet when pursued together.

First launched in 2020 under the Fit India Movement, the Fit India Freedom Run aims to make physical activity an essential part of people's daily routines. Its principle of running anywhere, at any time, has supported large-scale participation and a fitness culture across the country.

The event coincided with National Unity Day, observed on the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Participants took the National Unity Pledge and renewed their commitment to the nation's unity, integrity and security.

Through the initiative, the Department of Pharmaceuticals reiterated its commitment to healthy living, environmental responsibility, cleanliness, discipline and national unity among its officials and employees.

The event underscored the message that a healthy individual, a clean environment and a nation working together are indispensable to building a strong and healthy India.
