NEET deemed ineffective, Stalin says, as student protests intensify

M.K. Stalin, the senior DMK figure and former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, labeled the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) a total failure on Thursday. Writing on X, he asserted that the test has not succeeded in reducing academic pressure, curbing the commercialisation of coaching, or improving educational outcomes.

Stalin argued that NEET has moved the locus of study from schools to private coaching institutes, placing extra financial and mental pressure on students preparing for medical courses. He maintained that the weaknesses are structural, and recent events have reaffirmed the longstanding concerns voiced by Tamil Nadu.

He told that the continuing student demonstrations are a strong warning sign for the Union government, urging it to place confidence in state governments by ending NEET once and for all.
