NDA Welcomes Hamid Ansari’s Call to Make Cow National Animal

New Delhi, May 26. In a significant political development, NDA leaders have endorsed former Vice President Hamid Ansari’s plea to declare the cow India’s national animal and discourage its sacrifice during Eid. Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi praised the appeal, saying reverence for the cow is rooted in India’s eternal traditions. He argued that the animal serves humanity throughout life and therefore cow slaughter must end. Minister Ramkripal Yadav stressed that cattle form the backbone of village economies and that growing public awareness should translate into voluntary restraint. Minister Dilip Jaiswal welcomed the “positive thinking” behind Ansari’s words. Subhaspa leader Dilip Jaiswal urged lawmakers to examine whether the Constitution permits animal sacrifice. The development coincides with sensitive discussions ahead of Eid and renewed calls from Hindutva groups for stronger cow protection. Several states already enforce strict anti-slaughter laws. While NDA partners see the statement as unifying, some opposition voices fear it could inflame communal tensions. Analysts believe the cross-community support may give fresh momentum to the long-standing campaign for national-animal status.
